Do you have students constantly ask "What are we doing today?" Or, do they lose focus during work time? I am sure most of you answered 'No" because you are awesome at your job, but if you are like me and find yourself repeating this for each student walking in or having to remind them frequently, then today's tip is for you!
Today's Tip - Use GoGuardian to open tabs automatically!
If you are not currently using this feature in GoGuardian, you might consider it. For instance, I use a doc/slide with daily objectives (see below - notice it is in preview only mode, which I covered yesterday). However, you can have GoGuardian automatically open any link you want, whether it be Classroom or a specific assignment or tool you are using that day.
- I started opening tabs automatically for my students last year to help them focus on what we are doing that day.
- Some things stay on the list for a few days, weeks, or an entire unit. However, the objectives doc is something my 9th graders have every day, all year long.
- I simply change the info at the start of the day (so if you check back tomorrow or next week, this doc will look different).
- I also have what we are using that day open automatically. For example, today they will have PearDeck and NoRedInk open for them.
NOTE: I used to have the exact assignment in Classroom open automatically too. (Did you know each assignment has a specific link?) However, I can no longer do this because I now have my classes as separate sections in Google Classroom. This is one reason, among many, for why I will probably switch back to having all my 9th graders in one class, maybe even next semester. Another reason is having to update and move things around for four sections cuts down on efficiency, and I am all about saving teachers some time! For me, having them together in a class far outweighs the benefits of separating them into classes by section, but that is a story for another post
